 CISCO WEBEX

  • Content Sharing: Mobile users share content in two spaces.  Users share media-rich content in mobile sessions and share documents in WebEx Meeting Spaces asynchronously.

          Adobe Acrobat: .pdf

          Audio files: .mp3

          Images: .jpeg, .gif, .png

          PowerPoint: .ppt and .pptx

          Video: .asf; .avi; .f4v; .flv; .mov;

          mp4; mpg; mpeg; .qt; .wav; .wma;

          .wmv

          Word: .docx

          Web sites: .html, .htm, .asp, .php

EVA: WebEx divides the sharing process to organize the collaboration process and optimize the sharing experience.  Learners can also share rich media to express perspectives and personal experiences captured by HD video and thereby enrich knowledge-building.

Rating:

  • Screen Sharing:  Only Blackberry and Android devices screen share with other mobile devices via WebEx.

EVA: An educator can share applications and browse the internet with learners on a screen sharing device in a WebEx BYOD learning environment.  If all members of the virtual class have screen sharing devices then WebEx reduces dead air by enabling them to simultaneously share content in small groups instead of waiting for individuals to take turns sharing.

ADOBE CONNECT PRO

  • Content Sharing: Desktop users can upload content to the Central Content Library.  Connect also remembers shared content.  Mobile users can share the following files directly from their device by uploading it to the Share Pod:

          Adobe Acrobat: .pdf

          Audio files: .mp3

          Images: .jpeg, .gif, .png

          PowerPoint: .ppt and .pptx

          Video: .mp4, .swf, .flv

          Web sites: .html

EVA: Mobile learners cannot contribute to the Central Content Library, but can access shared content and thereby benefit from this shared-knowledge base.   Connect also supports effective virtual classroom management by remembering shared content.  Learners can continue collaborating from exactly where they left off.  However, learners may not express themselves with personal experiences captured on video because Connect support few video formats.

BLACKBOARD COLLABORATE

  • Application Sharing: Mobile users can view applications shared by desktop users, but cannot share applications.  As an alternative to screen sharing or web touring, Collaborate application sharing displays web content on mobile devices.

EVA: Mobile learners cannot contribute to the collaboration process by sharing applications, but can still participate in the sharing process.

  • Content Sharing: Mobile users can only view content desktop users share in the whiteboard module.

EVA: Mobile users can absorb information desktop users share.  However, they cannot share files. Although this does not create dead air, it severely inhibits the collaboration process because mobile learners cannot share their perspectives and personal experiences through content.
